Why Does My Cat Keep Biting Me?

·February 15, 2022
Why Does My Cat Keep Biting Me?

Cats and kittens may keep biting you for some reason, and it is essential to differentiate between playful and aggressive behavior. It might be difficult for a kitten to socialize, but an adult cat might bite for a different reason related to environmental issues, personality issues, and health issues.

According to Nicky, the medical reason is the pain in adult cats for biting. It is the masking they do when they are sick/ injured or stressed.

Cats also share emotions like a human such as stress, anxiety and frustration, which lead to biting. Humans should take it as a sign and take them to the vet as soon as possible and get them checked.

Why Do Cats Bite?

Excessive Petting Session:

Excessive petting results in Aggressive biting because the human doesn’t understand the body language or ignore them. Some cats love to be played for hours, but sometimes it makes them overstimulated.

Annoyed cats signal you, such as narrowed eyes or ears pulled back, tailing lashing. Notice these alert signs and stop petting as over patting results in a bite. Give them their space and prevent escalation.

Medical Condition:

Sometimes health problems and unusual behavior can make the cats aggressive, and they start biting. Biting is also an indication of underlying illness and diseases such as wounds, distress caused by mites and fleas, risk of infections or hormonal imbalance, like hyperthyroidism.

Pain and discomfort are the leading cause of aggression in cats. Take them to the vet and get a thorough check-up with proper medications.

Hyperesthesia:

It is a rare condition in which there is a burst of excessive and repetitive grooming. It is a disease of aggression in cats. The vet believes that it is a Neurological disorder like panic attacks in humans, triggered by stress by the strange environment or another cat’s presence.

The presence of another cat or any change in the environment can cause cats to bite. Changing climate, not providing them with the resources they want, adding something new to their diet or living, or changing location can stress the cat out. Which result in aggression and biting

Try to maintain the surroundings to avoid unwanted behavior, keep other cats away. Introduce new items or change slowly and give them time to adjust. Take care of their feeding, bathing, playing sessions and daily routine.

Final Words:

The main reason cats don’t stop biting is aggression and destructive behavior due to the reasons mentioned above. Try to understand the body language and signal your cat is giving you. Visit the vet frequently for a thorough check-up. Care taken of your cats and love them.
